Demetri Burke uses mixed media, including charcoal, oil paint, and found images, to express narratives of identity and culture. His body of art work is diverse and fluid, never standing still for long. At times, his focus is intensely set on the Black figure, while others on ethereal images of nostalgia in a Southern lens. Ultimately, however, everything is unified in its intimacy with the viewer, the depiction of Blackness, and narratives that wrestle with trauma and affection.
