Born in South Korea, Brooklyn-based Judy Chung invents characters and place them in complex narratives. Through these characters, she transports herself into multiple personalities, timelines, and situations. Using her own personal experiences as a starting point, the artist distorts and reimagines these with references ranging from art history and literature to pop culture and contemporary media, such as neoclassical art, kitsch, and kawaii. Incorporating humor and a sense of play prevents her work from getting overly sentimental. She has contributed to various publications, including DATEAGLE ART, New American Paintings, and Elastic Magazine.
