Artwork created during lockdown
In deciding the theme for our inaugural auction, we knew that celebrating the genius and creativity that have risen during this most unusual year was inevitable. “We acquire the strength we have overcome,” said American poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, and his words, which resonate all the more today, are beautifully embodied by the artworks offered in this auction. Seventeen artists, of different nationalities and across a wide swath of mediums and philosophies, have shown the power of resilience. Like the ancient bread that carries the name of the auction, the artists—and, in some noteworthy cases, the wonderful galleries who represent them—utilized the most readily available ingredients: time, innovation and their bare hands, to produce the inspiring artworks that Greenhouse is proudly offering in our milestone auction.
