In the last year, people around the world have been disrupted by the pandemic. Artists, crews and all the people who bring music to life have seen their livelihoods disappear. At the same time, the bike industry is booming, which led me to ask, how can Brompton help our friends in the music industry?
Made for cities, Brompton bikes are sold in 47 countries around the world and over 70% of production is exported. The company produces over 70,000 bikes a year and over 500,000 have hit the roads since the first bike was made in 1975 by the inventor Andrew Ritchie.
A Brompton bike is perfect for those that live, work or play in cities: The bike folds up to a third of its size, and weighs on average just 11kg for the standard model and from 16.6kg for the Brompton Electric, which means a Brompton is suitable to take on all forms of transport – perfect for commuting on trains, popping in the boot of the car and taking out of the city for some fresh air, hailing a taxi when the weather changes or you want to get home late at night. One Brompton bike takes 6.2 tonnes less carbon than a car to make and 42 folded Brompton bikes can be parked in the space it takes to park one car.Brompton Bicycle’s home city of London has seen cycling increase by 91% since 2003. 14 flagship Brompton Junction retail stores in cities across the world, including London, Beijing, Tokyo, Milan, Kobe, Hamburg, Shanghai, Amsterdam, Munich, Valencia, New York, Melbourne, Tel Aviv and Singapore. Brompton sells to a selected 1,500 independent bike stores worldwide.
Live music inspires millions around the world, but the concerts we all enjoy wouldn’t be possible without the countless crew members working behind the scenes. Crew Nation is a charitable fund, created to help the touring, venue and festival crews who depend on shows to make a living by providing monetary grants to those facing hardship during the pandemic and beyond. Crew Nation is powered by Music Forward Foundation, a charitable 501c3 organization, that is administering and managing the fund.
So far, the fund has raised $18 million, helping 15,000 live music crew members across 48 countries who were impacted by the rescheduled or cancelled shows due to the pandemic.
With concerts and festivals still largely on pause, there are hundreds of thousands of crew members who still need help. The fund hopes to double its impact and raise at least $30 million so that it can continue providing support for these independent workers who are the backbone of the live music industry.

“As part of my musical career, I’ve had the great fortune to visit every continent and countless countries and having a Brompton bike as part of my touring rig has added so much to the enjoyment of these new and special places. It’s an honor to be collaborating with Crew Nation in their work to help those in our industry that have struggled recently, and your involvement will help us all keep rolling down the road. Thanks for your support. ”
