American artist Tyler Vouros was raised in a small town, living in a log cabin nestled in the woods. Wishing to maintain his connection to the natural world, the artist has been creating portraits of raptors, as seen in 'Argus'. Each raptor is carefully chosen for its character, and the artist worked with the current owl multiple times. To create the portrait, the artist tones each sheet of paper of charcoal, which is then worked on with different tools of erasure to create the different shades of gray and white. Depicted in monumental scale, the owl's plumage occupies the entirety of the artwork, lending Argus an impressive and commanding air.
