New York-based artist Luke Ivy Price left his day job at a cotton mill as well as his board seat on the local arts council in his native North Carolina to pursue his art career in the Big Apple. Passion, in fact, is a primary driver for the artist, be it in his practice or his subject matter. Candid and curious, Luke draws from literary inspirations and European Modernists alike to examine his own personal history. Through abstraction of the human form, the artist prioritizes the inspection of emotions and interpersonal relationships. In 'Changing Each Other', mounds of flesh undulate across the surface of the canvas, with a variety of textures flowing in and around it. Reminiscent of Gustave Courbet's 'The Origin of the World', the painting is a contemporary deconstruction of gender and intimacy.
