Cleveland-based artist Frank Oriti was raised in a small, blue-collar town, an experience that ultimately came to define his artwork. Choosing garments such as denim, leather and cotton to act as surrogates for their owners, under the artist's deft hand each pile of clothing becomes a de facto portrait. In 'Top O' The Heap', which borrows its title from the famed Frank Sinatra song, an all-too-familiar T-shirt greets viewers like an old friend. The crinkled fonts, soft folds of the denim and the slight soiling on the side of the shoe hint at a recent presence of their owner, creating an immediate if subtle sense of intimacy with the viewers.
