Part of an ongoing series begun in 2017 of around 20 works that address themes of memory through accumulation of haphazard objects contained in drawers, frames or boxes. The artist cites the pictorial space of Jasper Johns and Joseph Cornell among others - artists who created complex worlds where recurring motifs are contained within a framing device. Here, Branca, renders food items such as an oyster, a cucumber and a leaf of radicchio, alongside of surrealist-themed motifs such as a nose and an eye, that relate to his ongoing research into hedonism around desire and food culture within painting's vast history. A brilliant cerulean blue field hovers above delivering a pleasurable 'empty' space for the viewer to get lost in and explore.
